Improving primary health-care services in LMIC cities

Urban areas in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) are increasingly home to most of the population, yet health policies often still rely on rural models. Unlike rural areas, urban health care is dominated by a dense, competitive provider market. As a result, traditional improvement strategies may not be effective in cities. Innovative policies that use choice and competition to shape these markets hold significant promise.
