The aim of this toolkit is to provide an overview of best practices, innovations, tools and methods that are available to countries in support of strengthening the components of a health facility information system. The materials are presented according to an organizing framework for the key components of a country health facility information system, namely: governance (‎an overarching component)‎; data collection and management; data quality and analysis; and data dissemination and use. Within each section, key action steps are identified for countries and examples of available tools and resources to support country action are provided. A checklist of key items and attributes is also provided designed to facilitate monitoring of progress towards defined standards (‎also available as a separate spread sheet)‎. The checklist can be used to monitor progress and should be completed in a collaborative process by all stakeholders, including data producers and data users.
