Five years ago, the World Conference on Primary Health Care held in Astana and the resolution WHA72.2 initiated a phase of conceptual and practical renewal of Primary Health Care (PHC). This led to the updating of technical cooperation from both the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) and strategic stakeholders in the region of the Americas.
The Operational Framework for PHC, published by WHO in 2021, proposed 14 mechanisms necessary to transform the global and regional commitments of the Declaration of Astana into concrete actions and interventions. These efforts aim accelerate progress in strengthening systems oriented towards primary health care and, ultimately, to achieve demonstrable improvements in achieving the goal of health for all.
The implementation of policies and actions at the territorial level is also a focus of the Alliance for Primary Health Care in the Americas (A4PHC), a collaboration between PAHO/WHO, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the World Bank Group (WB) launched in December 2023. This partnership aims to transform health systems with a focus on PHC. Therefore, our new Webinar series on Primary Health Care with a territorial perspective will highlight these tools and their uses in the region, particularly in the context of Integrated Health Services Delivery Networks.
This webinar aims to introduce some tools for the operationalization of PHC and to follow up on the discussion on implementation and prioritization of the strategy as a fundamental element in the process of strengthening and transforming health systems in the Americas. The activity is aimed at health professionals, health service managers, policy makers, academics, students and other relevant actors in the field of health.
